Today I made my first real circuit! It was bit confusing. I messed up the pin orders first and I could only get a 4 volt difference from the source. So I checked the data sheet again (lol the first time) and saw that pin 1 was Vadj and pin 2 was Vout and pin 3 was Vin. You can see it in the picture from left to right. I know this is a very very simple thing to do but it worked out awesome for me.
I needed to get 7.5 volts but I settled for 8 volts. So I used 330 for R1 and 1800 for R2. If you check this website here. Voltage Calculator for LM317 Its very easy to understand, just look at the chart for the voltage you need, and match up the resistances you have in your trusty resistor box. Unfortunately for me I could only make a 8.07 volts which in my opinion is perfectly fine for the project that I'm trying to do.
If your like me and have a box of resistors and dont have them sorted out properly, and you dont feel like metering them. Please remember I'm a total newb at this so you elite guys are laughing your asses off, but here is another link for finding out quickly what you need by matching the colors Resistor Color Code Table
Lets see if I can build my next circuit....... LOL
