My first IC LM317t

Today I made my first real circuit! It was bit confusing. I messed up the pin orders first and I could only get a 4 volt difference from the source. So I checked the data sheet again (lol the first time) and saw that pin 1 was Vadj and pin 2 was Vout and pin 3 was Vin. You can see it in the picture from left to right. I know this is a very very simple thing to do but it worked out awesome for me.

I needed to get 7.5 volts but I settled for 8 volts. So I used 330 for R1 and 1800 for R2. If you check this website here. Voltage Calculator for LM317 Its very easy to understand, just look at the chart for the voltage you need, and match up the resistances you have in your trusty resistor box. Unfortunately for me I could only make a 8.07 volts which in my opinion is perfectly fine for the project that I'm trying to do.

If your like me and have a box of resistors and dont have them sorted out properly, and you dont feel like metering them. Please remember I'm a total newb at this so you elite guys are laughing your asses off, but here is another link for finding out quickly what you need by matching the colors Resistor Color Code Table

Lets see if I can build my next circuit....... LOL

Here's One Way to Temper Your Road Rage: iGun for iPhone [Viral Videos]

hahaha, funny..... Reminds me of those little noise makers that you used to put on your dash board to do the same thing. Next he needs to add tank and rocket launcher noises.

Anyone who's ever crawled along at a snail's pace on a freeway should relate to this guy hilariously busting out his iPhone, firing up the iGun app, and totally losing his shit. Is it real or a viral? You decide:

Future Darwin Award nominee or desperate genius? Maybe both. But shoving things into what looks like a UK 220V outlet is probably not going to end well. Just ask the guy in this retro UK electrical hazards PSA:

Google Chromium on Mac Kicks Every Other Mac Browser's Ass [Browsers]

Google Chromium on Mac Kicks Every Other Mac Browser's Ass [Browsers]: "

Google Chromium 4.0, the pre-alpha version of Chrome, may still be buggy and crashy as all hell, but it's also incredibly fast, according to benchmarks: 34% faster than Safari, for one, and more than twice as fast as Firefox.

These numbers are based on Javascript benchmarks, which don't give a total view of a browser's speed but do tell us how adept a browser is at dealing with intensive code. Chromium scored 657ms on the test to Safari's 886ms. Firefox scored 1,508ms and Opera 10 Beta 3 (my personal browser of choice) lagged way behind with 5,958ms. Keeping in mind that Chromium is pre-alpha and thus better seen as a fun dev project than an actual candidate for a primary browser, we're pretty excited. Once Google irons out the bugs and gets some damn extensions, Chrome on Mac is going to be a stiff challenger to Firefox. [CNET]

Social Mobile Games Are Hot. $3 Million Hot: "

Seattle-based Z2Live, a new mobile social gaming platform, is announcing a second round of financing tomorrow - $3 million from Madrona Venture Group (also Seattle based), topping off the $1 million they raised from Madrona last year. Paul Goodrich from Madrona is on the company’s board of directors.

The company describes itself as “the first mobile multiplayer game platform,” and has created a multiplayer platform for the iPhone/iPod Touch products. They also offer a set of services to implement subscriptions. The platform, they say, supports a wide variety of social games, including: turn-based casual games, racing games, role-playing games, and eventually the most sophisticated first-person shooters. The platform is free, Z2Live takes a cut of revenues from the games.

The company has a complicated corporate structure. Z2Live is a division of Zero260, which launched another product this year called PhotoFeedd. The companies were founded by David Bluhm and Damon Danieli.

How a differential works. Very rarely do I find somthing so intesting that I should post.

Like every morning I sit down to have my coffee and I read my RSS feeds (about 350 feeds a day). Today I came across something that I already know but was so pleased to see it simplified in an old school black and white video..... I know its been forever since my last post, but I really had to post this...

The Dream iPhone Pro [Apple]

How awesome would this iPhonePro be? OMG, Only if Apple could get their heads out of their asses, this phone would be sooo unbeatable nothing could touch it. I think the only thing missing on the iPhone 3g is a real keyboard. I really can't wait to see whats coming next from apple.

via Gizmodo by Jesus Diaz on 12/28/08

Here's the new iPhone Pro, something that we don't expect at MacWorld 2009 at all. However, we do expect something like this to come at a later date. Why? Because it just makes sense.

Click on image above for higher resolution version

This concept started as a Photoshop idea by Giz reader Mat Brady. He wants to get rid of his Nokia N95 but can't get himself to buy an iPhone for the same reason other people don't like the current iPhone. Lack of a physical keyboard, lack of a good camera, and not enough storage.

I've an iPhone 3G. I love it. In fact, now that I'm in Spain and I can't use the 3G—because AT&T will nail me for the data roaming at a buck per megabyte—I miss a lot of things, from Maps to Facebook. But even while I can't live without it, I can see those shortcomings. In fact, I've bitched about the camera and the storage quite a few times. Mat made his concept and called it iPhone Elite: an iPhone with 60GB of storage, true 16:9 aspect ratio, slide-out keyboard, one megapixel front camera for iChat, and a high quality camera, with good lenses, optical zoom, and video capability.

That's good, but we thought it could be a bit better. We fixed the keyboard to make it more rational and compact, losing some unneeded keys. With the space, we added what it's really needed to make the iPhone a true Nintendo DS competitor: A direction pad and two buttons. For the D-Pad, we didn't want to reinvent the wheel and just copied Nintendo's tried-and-proved design.

Is this doable now? Technologically, it is. We've seen designs by HTC that get close to this, although they don't have the software and the final polish that this class of Apple product may have. Would it be more expensive too produce than the current iPhone 3G? Of course. Would we want to pay extra for it? Definitely yes.

Wouldn't you? [Original design by Mat Brady]

Half a terabyte of public domain video, free for the downloading

This is some pretty cool stuff. I might actually just leech the whole site and make a TV channel out of it and post that online...... Hmmm intresting idea....

Half a terabyte of public domain video, free for the downloading

via Boing Boing by Cory Doctorow on 2/2/09
Rogue archivist Carl Malamud sez,

Public.Resource.Org released a 1/2-terabyte public domain stock footage library. This is 438 high-resolution MPEG2 files we obtained from the federal government. The footage ranges from WWII Disney productions to Army training films to Fish and Wildlife Service documentaries of wilderness areas.

For a small studio or a student filmmaker with a half-terabyte free, we thought you might appreciate the convenience of simply downloading the whole thing as NTSC MPEG-2 files all at one time and sorting it out later. We include the metadata files from the Internet Archive, and our servers support http, ftp, and rsync.

If you just just want to browse the video, you can use our depots on YouTube, the Internet Archive, or our own NTIS agency page. But, if you'd rather slurp the source for your video library, have at it.

Athena Multimedia Sofa with an integrated computer

Ok, I want one of these for my house. This would be great for gamming too!

We here at Bornrich are fans of intelligent media furniture, our favorites being the RUF cinema bed, the "@-space" media Chair, the Maya chair, besides a few others. The latest is this upholstered sofa called the "Athena," which features an integrated computer. You can use all functions like the home computer and can connect it with the multi-room systems to take care of media applications from email to watching TV from the comfort of a chair. The luxury though comes for an eye-popping price of approx. $15,436, which seems like a bit over the top in these hard times. But, then this designer furniture is meant strictly for the elite of society.

Glass Microwave Corn Popper With Butter Strainer [Delicious]

What a great idea. Did you know that 1.45 million microwave popcorn bags are thrown out in the garbage every day? Since those bags are made out of a thicker type of paper that it take almost 8 times longer to decompose, and that's with out taking in consideration the butter that has soak in the the paper which decreases the ability of the paper to decompose.

You wana talk about going green and trying to save the planet? Helz ya!. So I would start with the simple steps to go green. Get one of these!
via Gizmodo by Sean Fallon on 1/14/09

Bagged popcorn gets the job done, but burning and unpopped kernels can be a problem. Besides, nothing beats the taste of real butter slathered on there. That's where this glass corn popper comes in.

Apparently, it cuts down on unpopped kernels, prevents burning and helps to save a few trees at the same time. But the best part is undoubtedly the built-in butter strainer.
